Cinnamon French Toast

Thick-cut bread soaked in a cinnamon custard and griddled until the outside is crisp and the middle is soft.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Make the custardWhisk the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and salt in a shallow dish.

  2. SoakDip each bread slice for about 10 seconds per side. It should be saturated but not falling apart.

  3. GriddleMelt a little butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the slices 2 to 3 minutes per side until deep golden.

  4. ServeStack with syrup and berries. Keep finished slices on a rack in a 200°F oven while you cook the rest.

Editor’s tip. Stale bread soaks up custard without turning soggy. If yours is fresh, dry the slices in a 300°F oven for 8 minutes first.
